One product I simply must recommend is grip tape with a glow-in-the-dark strip. This is meant to be put on stairs, both to prevent slipping and to illuminate the edge of the step. I have fallen down a steep staircase before — the staircase being wooden and my socks reducing the friction — and it is not pleasant.

Moreover, the glow strip can be cut out and put on light switches, doorknobs, and other fixtures a nighttime  wanderer might be likely to want to find.

I can also recommend carrying a small flashlight, or perhaps better, a red spectrum button cell mini flashlight on a necklace. This is one way to ensure you have light even if you like to sleep naked.
